Black Box and the Den

We’re crazy excited about our sexy partnership with the Den Theatre.

In the future, they’ll serve as a base camp so we can create the fearless actor.

Here’s a little bit more about them…
The Den is a space to converse, create, inspire, and relax. Salvete, omnes! Welcome all.

We reside in a spacious loft in the vibrant Wicker Park neighborhood. This comfortable 70-seat performance venue hosts The Den’s own productions and can easily accommodate staged readings, lectures, film screenings, and more. An intimate Cafe is attached to the theatre and rental studios are housed just around the corner.

Rehearsal rooms, classrooms, and event space are available for rent (price varies depending on room size). See our website for more information.

Look out for The Den Cafe coming soon. Come enjoy the space, grab a cup of coffee, and make yourself at home.

For those of you wondering about our Belmont location, have no fear, it’s still our home and it’s still base camp #1.

I dig my job.
I dig the people I work with.
I dig my life.

Why then, when I go to Ikea and walk through their kitchen section, do I have an existential crisis about the artistic path I’ve chosen?

When I start to walk through those “kitchens,” my throat closes and I genuinely believe that I’ll never have that kitchen unless I book a sitcom, and I’ll never book a sitcom unless I move to LA, and IF I DO move to LA, I’ll never book anything unless I get a nose job and start eating cocaine for breakfast.

But, if I DID have that kitchen…

…I would cook (healthy) and eat raw all the time. I would get that really expensive blender at Whole Foods and put kale and…something else in it. I would lose 10lbs, wear Armani jeans, get my hair and nails did on a regular basis, schedule facials so my skin would look like I drank at least 8oz water in the last year, learn to speak Italian, play the piano…and I’d be really funny and really smart all the time, and people would say – “Wow… she’s really funny… and really smart.”

I’d be one of those girls who actually looks good laughing with their mouth open.

If I DID have that kitchen, I could book a sitcom.

Fuck you Ikea. Fuck you and fuck your beautiful “kitchens.”

I love my life. I love my job. And I love being an artist.

And the truth is that if I were on my death bed tomorrow – I would rather have been in that one play, that one time, worked with that one person who truly inspired me, felt so alive that it hurt – than to have those black cabinets with that sparkly red tile backsplash.

Plus, there’s something really romantic about feeling like you’re fighting to stay alive.
